Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect from counseling and therapy?

While different therapists use different approaches and techniques, they may have some points in common.  Initial sessions always involve a chance to determine whether we are comfortable working with one another and possibly an assessment of the problems which brought you to counseling. Much like a first visit with a physician, the first session involves reviewing or completing forms and gathering background information. Because so many factors go into a successful therapeutic relationship, it is important to discuss information that is relevant to the problem and your personal goals for therapy. Your progress toward the goals will be discussed and we will evaluate them together on a regular basis to ensure that the therapeutic process is working in the desired ways.

How often will you be seeing me? / how often will I have sessions?

Therapy sessions typically take place once a week in the beginning and then are spaced out during the month.

How does pricing and payment work? Will insurance pay?

While we do not file insurance, we will provide a form so that you may seek reimbursement from your insurance. We also encourage you to think about using alternatives to insurance such as your flexible spending account if provided by your employer. We will be happy to discuss your financial concerns during our first session.

How do I make an appointment?

Call us at 919-522-9314 to schedule your appointment. Then download this intake form, fill it out, and bring it with you to your first appointment

Will my employer fire me if they find out I’m seeking therapy?

This is a concern to many people who seek therapy for the first time. Our therapists are bound by both ethical and legal confidentiality agreements and must protect your information under the same provisions as stated in the HIPAA regulations that govern the release of medical information.

I work during the day. Can you see me in the evenings?

Yes, evening and some weekend appointments are available. We are also available to schedule brief appointments that can be used to check-in once therapy has progressed to a maintenance phase. These brief appointments (20 minutes) can be scheduled during lunch breaks or possibly completed during a phone call.
